On Tuesday, April 10th at 7:00pm at Town Hall, the Town and the Lyme Action Network provided a presentation on Lyme and tick-borne diseases. Professor Holly Ahern, SUNY Adirondack (Microbiology), an expert on Lyme disease, explained the nature of tick pathogens, methods to avoid tick bites, diagnostic testing, and treatment options. Professor Ahern is co-founder of the Lyme Action Network, and is a science advisor for national research and advocacy organizations. Professor Ahern has over 40 years of research in the microbiology of tick pathogens, has provided expert testimony before state and federal legislators, and is a frequent speaker and consultant.
Assemblymember Patricia Fahy discussed recent and pending legislation in the NYS Assembly related to Lyme disease. State Senator George Amedore's staff provided updates on the State’s efforts to combat Lyme and tick-borne diseases. Senator Amedore is a member of the State Senate’s Task Force on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases, which recently issued a report entitled, “Ticking Time Bomb: Comprehensive Report Released on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases,” that highlights the need for immediate statewide action plan and legislative commitment to empowering patients and funding research to reduce the tick population.
